REIGNITING YOUR PASSION FOR GOD

I recently came across and excerpt from a sermon I had saved that was written by Rick Warren, and want to share it with you all.
Remember, in the heat of the summer, we must be on fire for Jesus!

The creative force behind all great art, all great drama, all great music, all great architecture, all great writing is passion. Nothing great is ever accomplished in life without passion. Nothing great is ever sustained in life without passion. Passion is what energizes life. Passion makes the impossible possible. Passion gives you a reason to get up in the morning and go, “I’m going to do something with my life today.” Without passion life becomes boring. It becomes monotonous. It becomes routine. It becomes dull. God created you with the emotions to have passion in your life and He wants you to live a passionate life. Passion is what mobilizes armies into action. Passion is what causes explorers to boldly go where no man’s gone before. Passion is what causes scientists to spend late night hours trying to find the cure to a dreaded disease. Passion is what takes a good athlete and turns him or her into a great athlete where they’re breaking records. You’ve got to have passion in your life.
One day a man walks up to Jesus and he says, “Lord, what’s the most important thing in the Bible?” And you know what the Great Commandment is. We’ve talked about it many times. Jesus said, “I want you to love God with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. Nothing matters more than that. That’s the number one thing in life. I want you to love Me passionately.” Nothing else matters in life if you don’t love God passionately.

God doesn’t want you to love Him half-heartedly. He wants you to love Him with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind and all your strength.
I love the paraphrase of that verse, Mark 11:30, from The Message “Jesus said, ’Love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.” Circle the word “passion”. That word, in Greek, is the word “heart.” God is saying I want you to put some muscle into it, put some energy, put some emotion into your relationship with Me. Don’t be a wimp about your relationship with Me. Don’t be namby-pamby. Don’t be half-hearted. Give it all you’ve got. Jesus is saying, “If you’re going to follow Me, you’ve got to go it with passion. You’ve got to give it some oomph, some spark, some zip, some enthusiasm, some zest. I want you to live passionately.”
In fact, this truth is all through the Bible. The Bible tells us that we’re to seek God passionately. We’re to love God passionately. The Bible says that we’re to serve and obey God passionately. We’re to trust God passionately. Then as if you didn’t get the message, in Colossians 3:23 He says “Whatever you do, do it with all of your heart as unto the Lord and not unto men.”
He says I want you to do everything passionately when it comes to loving Me, serving Me, living for Me.

May we all have great passion for all we do to bring glory to our Lord! AMEN.

Love in Christ,
Pastor Dan

June Caller

I recently had two emails that came on the same day, and went together so well, I decided to share them both with you.

What God Is Doing

“I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without Me.” John 15:5 Your challenge each day is to find out what God is doing in the part of the world where you live, and join Him in doing whatever that is. How can your personal thoughts and actions, even attitudes, relate to the activity of God? How is God moving today in the place where you are? “God had made us what we are. In Christ Jesus, God made us to do good works, which God planned in advance for us to live our lives doing.” Ephesians 2:10 You know what God is doing by looking around you for evidence of His activity. You see God involved in institutions that care for people. He is obvious in causes that promote good values and strong principles. Be aware of where God is working, and join Him there. Discern the divine in everyday life, and join forces with God in what He is doing. Give yourself to God’s work.  “Dear God, show me what You are doing so I can help accomplish Your will in the world. Amen”

Our Place in this World

Take the time to read John 17, a prayer of Jesus.  Throughout the chapter, Jesus repeatedly differentiates his disciples from what he calls “the world.” The difference, Jesus maintains, is one of belonging. The disciples are different because they belong to Jesus, not the world, and therefore strive to not conform to the world’s values. Even though Christians do in fact conform to the world’s values sometimes is beside the point. In the eyes of Jesus, what makes his disciples different is not first and foremost how they live (though it is very important), it’s to whom they belong. Another way of saying this is that Christian identity is always positive; we’re defined by what we are – people who find their identity in Christ – not by what we are not. This positive way of framing the difference between Christians and non-Christians is a helpful reminder that we are to have a positive influence on the world and not have a passive, ‘I don’t care’ attitude and seclude ourselves from the world.  New Testament scholar, Richard Bauckham, summarizes this approach: “The way of Jesus’ followers is the way of Jesus himself – the Jesus of the Gospels who moved freely wherever his love was needed, compromising himself in the eyes of the holier-than-thou, but disturbing and attracting precisely by being so positively different from the ordinary way of the world. To belong to Jesus requires the courage to be different, to be like Jesus, actually for the sake of the world. And to belong to Jesus sets us free to be in the world, where people need us, where God needs us, without succumbing to the false gods to whom too many in our societies are enslaved.”  Summarizing these thoughts I believe our mission can simply put this way:

We are to –

Seek, See, and Be Jesus; Here, There, and Everywhere.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Dan

“Spring Fever”

We may think that we have it bad here in Kansas, waiting around 5 months or so for the return of warmer weather. People north of us wait longer, while some in the south don’t know what cold really is! We know how to celebrate the arrival of spring! Recognizing new buds on the trees, the first sighting of a robin, and feeling the warmth of the sun.

Can you imagine the spring fever Noah and his family must have had? They had been in the ark for over a year!

  1. The whole world has gone crazy.

They had forgotten their Creator. Violence had filled the land. God had enough. Judgment was pending.

So too, in many ways is our world today.

  1. I am glad that I am in the ark.

It took Noah and his family a year’s time to complete the building of the ark. During this time, he had been a preacher of righteousness. Only his immediate family would heed his warning of the coming flood. The total number in Noah’s church…. Eight.

When I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, He placed me into his family. I became a member of his “Church.” I was placed into the ark of safety.

Our Church is not a “big” Church. But I am glad for the ark God has provided us, how about you?

  1. The world does not appeal to the child of God.

In our text, Noah sends out two birds from the Ark, the raven and the dove.

The raven is a flesh eating bird. It was at home with the floating decaying of debris. So, too, are the lost. The deadness of this world has an attraction to the lost soul.

Noah also sent out a dove. The appetite of the dove is for fresh and green morsels. The dove returned to the ark.

A babe in Christ desires holiness.

Every week the “doves” of our Church return to the ark. The world does not appeal to us. We long for the safety of the ark.

  1. Thank God for the olive branch.

The dove returned to the ark with a olive branch in its beak on its second flight. Can you imagine the joy this olive branch brought to Noah and his family?

What a message of “Spring Fever.” What a blessing to have the hope of life.

Every week, we join together as a Church in our “little ark” of safety. Every week, as we look into the Word of God, we are blessed with a glimpse of our hope of Heaven. The Holy Spirit, like the dove, captures our hearts with another “olive branch.”

Thank God for the Olive branches.

  1. Soon, I’ll be going home.

After the third flight of the dove, the dove returned no more to the ark. Over the years, many of the saints of our Church have taken their flight. They have departed from this world to return no more.

But, soon, as in this text, Noah and his family would leave their ark. It was spring time! God opened up the door. Can you imagine the joy that Noah and his family had on that day! It is what I imagine the garden of Eden would have been like.

Are you ready for Spring? Are you ready to take the third flight of the dove? Do you long for Heaven? Do you long for home?

Our prayer, “Even so, Lord Jesus, come!”

Love in Christ,

Pastor Dan
