Pastor Dan’s Article

“Appreciating God”
A few days ago while I was out walking the dog I had one of those “God” moments. It was a warm morning, a gentle breeze was blowing and in the quiet I could hear a multitude of birds singing and bringing in the new day. The chirps of Robins and sparrows, the songs of Blue Jays and Cardinals, and the amazing mix of songs from the Mocking Bird was a God moment for me and truly made me appreciate God’s amazing creation. As I was listening to all this and enjoying the entire scene I began to thank God for the simple experience ….. not what you’d call majestic but a simple experience of God’s creation speaking about the wonder of The Creator who has limitless imagination & creative power. I found myself doing what we all need to remember to do on a regular basis – Appreciating God!
God designed creation to do just what it did to me that morning – inspire / awe / stir us.
God designed creation in such a way as to point to the greater wonder of an all wise creator.
Here’s the question for us – How often do we take time to appreciate God?
We get so used to the idea that I have to read my Bible, pray, witness, pay my tithes and come to church – all of which are true and necessary disciplines.
But like Jesus said of Mary …… how often do we choose that good part and spend time simply appreciating God?
That morning wasn’t by any means an earth shaking event but it certainly was an occasion where I found myself giving thanks and praise to God for His goodness.
We need to remember God’s amazing blessing of creation and also remember it gives us the opportunity to appreciate God and give Him the praise He is worthy of.

Love in Christ,

Pastor Dan

Pastor Dan’s Article

A Great Cloud of Witnesses
We are never alone.
Hebrews chapter 11 is a history lesson of the Old Testament!
Abel brought a sacrifice. Noah built an ark.
Abraham obeyed God.
Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau.
Sarah trusted God’s promises.
Joseph was faithful in Egypt.
Moses led God’s people to liberation.
Rahab welcomed the Israelite spies.
We could add Peter, James, John, Paul, Mary, Clement, Polycarp, Justin, Augustine, Bonaventure, Theresa, Wesley, and many, many more.
By faith, these saints encourage us, even though they have crossed over into eternity. (Hebrews 11:4)

Hebrews 12 describes these faithful as the “great cloud of witnesses.” By faith, we realize and remember we are not alone in the race of faith. We are surrounded by the a great cloud of witnesses – past and present, earthly and heavenly. These ordinary people who exhibited extraordinary faith cheer us on and inspire us with their example. And leading the race is the crucified, risen, and ascended Jesus, “the pioneer and perfecter” of our faith.

This beautiful truth has brought comfort to the early Christians who experienced hardship, suffering, and even persecution. No doubt, as they were tempted to give up, these hopeful words by the author of Hebrews encouraged them to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus.

Are you ever tempted to give up the faith?
Remember you are surrounded by that Great Cloud of Witnesses to help you finish your race strong!

Love in Christ,
Pastor Dan
